Beautifully You Youtube Channel Update| May

Tuesday, 25 April 2017

Hi there Bellas! I wanted to take out the time to first of all welcome all the new faces I'm seeing on the Beautifully You Instagram. I was recently featured by the Mari Kondo IG (creator of the KonMari Method) account and so I'm glad to see more woman like myself joining this journey of personal discovery. Thank you for all of your support!

Secondly, as many of you may have noticed I didn't post a video last week on the channel. Now I don't want you to think anything to drive you away. Simply, I had some technical difficulties with a new mic that I bought. I had recorded a video with no sound. Apart from being devastated that an awesome video went to waste, I was very frustrated with this piece of equipment and didn't want to move on until I had resolved the issues. Luckily, I did, and we are back on track with the filming schedule.

Now that we are talking about the filming schedule, I have a few new updates I'd like to share with you about it. So, as I mentioned before I had written a blog post on the KonMari Method which was feature on her official Instagram account. It's my second most viewed post! It makes me so happy, that people are actually interested in what I'm posting. These are small victories for me but victories none the less. Well, because of the amount of interest in the topic, I've decided to create a Series on the Youtube Channel called: The Konmari Method| Konverting. This series will include an introductory explination on what KonMari is, as well as Vlogs documenting my whole processes and the "Konverting" of my home ending with my experience and how-to hacks. I post weekly videos every Wednesday, but I'm adding a new day to the schedule. This series will be posted every Monday as well! This is a temporary schedule but if I see a lot of interest on Monday Series Videos, I'll consider keeping it around.
Other Series I have in Mind:
- Fitness 21 Day Challenge
- Minimalism Challenge
- Making of a Cosplay

I've also decided to add new segments to the channel. Because, I want to be 100% myself through this channel, I thought that maybe I should share a passion of mine with you. It's most definitely what sets me apart from others. It's what makes me...well, me. My love for Asian pop-culture! So I cleverly will name this segment, " Dose of K." Why? Let me explain. My name starts with what is obviously the best letter in the alphabet. K, for Kimberly.  I love all things Korean, and Kawaii (Cute in Japanese.) This segment will include everything from but not limited to; K-Dramas, K-Music in general, Asian Beauty, Anime, Cosplay, Decoden and much more! I do have a passion for this type of content. I'll also be including a gaming segment which is still in the planning stages, but you can definitely expect to see that soon.

Having taken a good look at my social media analytics I found that there is a very big range of viewership and followers across my platforms. There is really no way to pin point who is watching the most. Even though I post the same things on all platforms the viewership is polar different in all of them. This is what has led to the decision on posting a wide variety of content, and really find a sweet spot for my channel. I do wish to make something for everyone. Beautifully You's mission will remain the same, but I would like to share with you more of who I am as well. If you have any suggestions or requests please feel free to leave me a comment!

Marie Kondo| What is the KonMari Method? 5 Easy Steps

Tuesday, 18 April 2017

Hi Bellas and welcome back! Today's topic will be about something I unfortunately haven't found someone explain in plain English to me, so after researching quite a bit, that's what I'm going to try and do for you today. We are going to cover what the KonMari Method is. This will be part of my KonMari Method Series on my Youtube Channel this week, if you're interested in learning more go ahead and subscribe!

The KonMari Method was created by Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo. She has several books published including her #1 New York Best Seller, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up; the Japanese Art of Decluttering. She uses Zen Spirit and Feng Shui principles in her method. KonMari is often applied to minimalism lifestyle. She believes that a clear space, equals a clear mind. Therefore, a clear life.

Her main belief though is contrary from what many practice in their daily life. Which is that cleaning up little by little everyday will ultimately lead to a tidy home. For each item brought into the home, we must take the equivalent out and storing things seasonally. Although these are meant to be helpful they do the complete opposite.  They are the very reasons we never seem to be able to maintain our messy homes.

Marie Kondo instead advocates for one drastic clean sweep of our home. It needs to be drastic so that we can not only see a drastic change in our life but feel one happen. She claims that once you clean your house once, you never have to do it again. And that her clients have never regressed to being messy. Sounds good to me! Where do I sign up right? Mari Kondo writes that this process can take anywhere from a few hours to at most 6 months. It's not as easy as some may think but not impossible!

Before we can begin, Marie Kondo tells us that we must make room for that really matters to us and ask ourselves what a clutter free home means to you personally? To me it means, an organized smooth flowing life. One that I can follow meaningful routines throughout the day, in order to make time for my children, for myself, and my marriage. It means be able to have time for hobbies, teaching my children things properly, creativity, romance etc. I'm in search of a happy life that I am happy living day by day. Not in a yearly perspective.

So where does one begin? There are 5 steps to the KonMari Method.

1. Start by discarding
By discarding things you are freeing up space for the things we love. We begin by asking ourselves "does this spark joy?" If it does, put it in the keep pile, if it doesn't put it aside to give away, donate or throw out. Obviously we must open books, go through papers, etc in order to really decide whether this is useful to you and sparks you joy right now, in the present time.

2. Tidy by category not location
Many, like myself often clean by room and not by category of items. Marie advices to gather everything of one category that is in your house and lay it out in one big pile. For example, gather all the articles of clothing in your house and put them in one big pile and begin to sort. Ask yourself if it sparks joy, and follow step one.

3. Tidy in the right order
It's important to clean in the right order from easiest to hardest category, that way you can train you intuition and realize with ease what sparks joy and what doesn't. For the category list the KonMari Method applies follow this link, from JusJusSprinkles.

4. Thank your things as you discard them
Treat your belongings as if they were real people. Appreciate them and thank them for their use as you let them go. Be sure to discard what you are letting go first, before you begin to organize what you are keeping. That way you ensure the clutter is gone, and is never coming back.

5. Designate a space for each of them
Now that all of your belongings have been sorted, and you have kept what sparks you joy. It's time to create or designate a space for every item you are keeping. Every item needs a home so that it can rest while you rest. That way you don't have things just lying around or come home and toss something on the ground.

You can read more about the KonMari Method by visiting her official website, here. I hope this was easy to follow and helpful to you in understanding what the basics for KonMari is. As I mentioned before, be sure to subscribe to my Youtube Channel for more on this new series, The KonMari Method. It'll contain how-to's, as well as vlogs of my experience transitioning to a minimalistic lifestyle using this method.

Easiest Pancakes From Scratch

Tuesday, 28 March 2017

When I was pregnant with my second baby, I remember a night craved pancakes so bad! I looked in my kitchen cabinets for some box pancake mixed and to my disappointment, I found none, we had run out. I then turned to every housewife's holy grail, Pinterest, for some answers. I searched for a pancakes "from scratch" recipe. As usual, every pin began with " the ultimate" or " the best" bla bla bla. I trusted the best looking recipe photo and began to gather my ingredients. I made my batter and then began to cook. I hardly could wait for the first pancake to come out!

Pregnant me was so anxious and excited! When it was ready, I placed it on a napkin, still hot, fresh off the pan, and I took a huge bite out of it. Boy was it nasty! It didn't taste like anything, and it became rock hard in minutes! It was the worst recipe ever, I was so disappointed. I can't even begin to tell you how upset this made me. Remember, I was pregnant, hungry and sensitive. Thus, never being able to trust a pinterest recipe ever again.

That was until, almost 3 years later, about two months ago, when I wanted to make pancakes for breakfast and found none in my kitchen cabinets, again! I turned to pinterest once more, and put all my faith in a recipe from a guy named Pete. I'm just kidding, the pancake style mix is called Pete's Scratch Pancakes. I made it and not only did my toddlers love it, but I did too! Honestly, the best pancakes from scratch ever! Today's recipe will be short and sweet and not to mention easy,...and I really mean easy! These will be high, but light and fluffy.

I N G R E D I E N T S:
- 2 cups flour
- 3 tbs sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbs baking powder
- 2 eggs (beat separately before adding them to the mix.)
- 1/4 cup butter (melted)
- 1 3/4 cups milk

D I R E C T I O N S:
1. Mix the dry ingredients first.
2. Combine the eggs and melted butter to the milk and slowly stir into the flour mixture.
3. Let sit at least 10 minutes while heating the pan.
4. Butter the pan a bit and pour your mix, one portion at a time.
5. When you see bubbles begin to appear, flip the pancake with a spatula.
6. After about 2 min, if you're unsure, you can poke the center of the pancake with a toothpick. If it comes out clean, the pancake is done.
7. Serve with toppings of your choice.

Note: The mix will make about 9, 6-inch pancakes. This depends obviously on the amount you pour into the pan for each one.

I hope you try this recipe out and enjoy having pancakes from scratch, it really is as simple and easy as it sounds. It tastes delicious! Be sure to hashtag #beyoutifulart if you do try it out. And if you like my recipe segments please leave a comment below, I'd love to hear from you!

Raising Strong Girls

Thursday, 23 March 2017

There are many different ideas about how to raise a little girl. “Who wants to be a princess, when you can be an astronaut?” is a quote I once read a long time ago. When I finally had mine, there was no doubt she was indeed our little princess, two years later and she still is. Having little girls is such a blessing,… AND a curse, just kidding, no I’m not, am I really though?

I want to teach my girls that there is nothing wrong with being a girl. That femininity is beautiful. That they should embrace their womanhood. It’s my duty to teach them of their divine nature, and true nobility. I want to teach my daughter, that she can accomplish anything in this world. That she is allowed to dream, to love, to be loved and to be happy. I want to raise girls who know their soul is precious. But, we must guide them, and teach them the qualities, attributes and behaviours of not only being a woman, but also that of a good person. Girls who have the courage and valour to choose righteousness in a world that would mock others for virtuous choices.

In order to raise good future mothers, sisters, wives, and functioning, respectable, confident modern woman, it all starts with the basics. Teaching them values, standards and of their worth. We must keep the class in the society that is quickly losing it, and raise our girls to be women other can look up to.

You CAN be strong, intelligent, different, and beautiful all at the same time.

Here’s to strong wom3n. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.

p.s. Here's a a little photoshoot of Samantha's Tea Party taken by Historian Photography. And a special thanks to Sprinkled Cakes Company for the beautifully delicious strawberry cake! I hope you enjoy them!

Create A Vision Board That Really Works

Friday, 10 March 2017

"Vision is merely a dream without action." - Joel Barker

Vision boards are a fantastic way to stay inspired in order to not only set your goals but also accomplish them. It's a fun way to get to know yourself and "put on paper" your thoughts and dreams. You fill them with pictures, clips, quotes and basically anything that inspires you to where you want to go and what you want to be.  The great thing about them is that they can change constantly. Once you accomplish something, you take it down and pin something up that represents your new goal. It’s like as you evolve, so does your board. It’s also interesting to have a visual board that describes what your life is like at any given moment, and who you aspire to become. Always becoming better version of yourself.

So, how does one go about creating one? The answer to that will take a bit of time and "research." You not only need to get to know yourself but I beleive in general, you must have knowledge of the law of attraction. Despite your personal beliefs, a vision board does not work without faith that it'll actually work and with you putting in actual work. Some believe in the law of attraction, that energy you put out into the universe (thoughts, words, actions) will come back to you in the same way. In a nutshell, you must envision what you want, believe as though you already have it, be grateful for what you have been given already, and let it go. The universe will guide you towards your goal and soon enough it will manifest itself to you.

 This is the first step you have to take during the process of creating your vision board. Figure out your intentions. You need to ask yourself questions such as;
What do you want?
- What do you need?
- What do you value?
- Where do you see yourself?
- Who do you want to become?
-And how do you want to feel when those things are made manifest?
When thinking of the feelings, be sure to choose single emotion words like freedom, peace, joy, success etc.  Write it all down. I like to use a web chart or a type of list to jot down ideas. Think of what inspires you.

Next you want to be sure you have all of the supplies needed to make a vision board. You don't want anything to stop your momentum and interrupt your inspired mood. Go out and buy what you think you might need, and some. You will need basic things like
- a board of some sort (poster board, foam board, pegg/cork board) Size doesn't really matter, but I found that small boards worked for short term goals and bigger boards had more room-obviously- to include long term as well.
- glue, tape or pins
- colourful or plain paper
- if you're old fashion, magazines and books (that can be cut up)
- scissors
- printer

Before you can begin to put together your board, I suggest doing the following. If you're not a pinner, get introduced to pinterest. Create a "digital" vision board. I found that it was an incredibly easy way to make a rough draft of the board you want to create. All you have to do is pin all of your pictures on a "board" and from there either find similar pictures in a magazine or just print them off the site. But you will have gathered everything you want to see on your physical vision board before you begin, right there on your screen.

Then, be sure to find a big enough space to work. You will make a mess, so plan for it. I chose to create on my bed, it's a king size, allowing me to have ample work space, and it helped me get personal and in tune with myself. You can always do it where you are most comfortable, like the floor or your kitchen table. Doesn't matter, what really matters is how you feel.

Which brings me to my next step. Get in the mood for inspiration. Before I had begun, I kid you not, I left everything to work with ready on the bed, went for a walk, came home and took a shower, got in my comfy clothes, put a playlist on of songs I love and started to create. Do whatever you have to do in order to relax yourself, have an open mind, get inspired and tapped into your desires.

Find images and words that inspire you and really speak to you. Think about how they make you feel, and what they mean to you personally. How will they help you achieve your goals. Try to find pictures that make you feel things. Try not to get carried away by what you find and cut up everything to put up or put up pictures that just look nice. No, take your time and really ponder on how you feel when you look at those pictures and read those words. I guarantee you, a vision board without emotional attachment will not work. Your pictures must invoke the feeling under your intentions, then start arranging them on your board. When it feels just right, go ahead and pin them to it.

You can always set aside any images that still feel good but don’t quite fit what you are going for. You can use them in future pages or boards. This is why I also suggest to have a digital board on pinterest. Not only can you make that board on pinterest private/secret, but it allows you gather and visualize your ideas better without wasting supplies and time.
Be sure not to choose images that send you into compare and despair or that otherwise feel crappy! (One of the biggest mistakes people make with vision boards!) You want to choose pictures that motivate you, make you want to be better, and live a life you will be happy living. Inspiration is key.
Now that you have put together your board, put it up somewhere you can see and be reminded of your goals. Many feel that vision boards should be a private thing, and decide to just store it somewhere, like a closet to take out occasionally, for "my eyes only" type of mentality. This will not work. You need to see it, and feel some accountability in order to feel compelled to work for the goals you have set on your board. You can place it in your room, hang it in your office or anywhere you will see it constantly on a day to day basis.

Look at your board and be proud. Be excited for the journey ahead. I suggest to also make a list of the things you could experiment with to start living out your goals NOW. That is the awesome thing about using your personal values to guide you, you can be successful NOW, without waiting for something external to change or the universe to do its thing.
Be sure to base your list in things that you are actually in control of. If you are already doing things that feel the way you want, make note of that, too. Get as specific as you can and start choosing those things as often as possible. This will get you going on physically working on your goals and being one step closer to achieving them.

One last tip I want to add, is to always check in with yourself. Look at your board, and change it up from time to time, especially when you've achieved something on it. Be sure to take it down, and put something new on. Make adjustments and fine tune as often as needed. While on your journey, ask yourself how things are going. You must trust and have faith in the process. If you can dream it, you can do it.

I also have to say this, my board isn't hidden nor in plain sight, but it is noticeable. Many feel the need to ask about it when they see it. Some are judgmental, others ridicule the thought of a "higher mystical law" and some think it's a great idea and end up try it themselves. Be sure to not take in any negativity towards your board. Have courage, and convince yourself that good things will follow when you work hard for your goals. Anyone who ridicules them, aspire to nothing themselves and should pay no attention to. Your vision board applies and has significance only to you and no one else. Don't feel obligated to have to explain it to someone. But if you're like me and don't give a care about what others think of me, go ahead, dare others and encourage them to do it too.
"All your dreams can come true, if you have the courage to pursue them" - Walt Disney.

FabFitFun | The Editor's Box

Monday, 6 March 2017

I believe that I have the best little sister in the whole wide world. She is the sweetest, smartest little human you could ever meet. I can't believe how grown up she is. The image I have of her, when I think of her, is the little kindergartener who wore overalls with socks and sandals to her first day of school.  When we were younger and I was single, because I was the only one of the two that was old enough to work, I would always take my little sister on what we called "sister dates." We would spend an entire day shopping, eating, taking pictures, and simply having fun until the sun went down. It was how I thought I could best bond with her and show her I cared about her. It was hard at times finding things we had in common or enjoyed doing together because our interests would be different, I'm older by 5 years. Nonetheless, we enjoyed hanging out, and bonding over a cone of ice cream.

I married  young, and feel that in a way, I left her on her own. She was only about 15 when I moved out and started my new life with my husband. We could have had many more years to bond over even more! You can't turn back time, but what you can do is strengthen the relationships you have with your loved ones now.
Although we live our separate day to day lives, working, going to school, taking care of kids etc; our sister bond is still going strong. And the foundations that were made for our relationship by doing these sister dates are to thank. I love my little sister, and she loves me...just look at how she spoils me.

I've always wanted a subscription box, and look what she surprised me with, who does she think she is? She's blazing amazing! I'm very excited to be sharing with you what this surprisingly large box contained. Let's begin the FabFitFun | The Editor's Box Unboxing! I can't wait to try out all of these goodies, which I must include, are full size!

Here's what came in this season's box:

 ModCloth Loch and Key Scarf
The Created Co. To-Go Coffee Mug
Fabfitfun Colouring Book and Colored Pencils
Manna Kadar Liplocked Priming Gloss Stain
Marrakech Argan & Hemp Hair Oil
 O.R.G. Skincare Mineral Peel Face
 Jook & Nona Tag Necklace
Anderson Lilley Beach Butter Body Cream
 Zoya Nail Polish

Now, for the big question... Would I recommend this? The answer is a little more complicated than a simple yes or no. I would say that if you are deciding whether or not to purchase a box subscription, you have to think of it as a gift to yourself or someone else and weigh the pros and cons. These types of box subscriptions are a bit pricey, especially if you're on a budget, costing close to $200 for a years subscription. I would justify this expense for two reasons only. One, that you want to spoil yourself, which you are 110% allowed, because girl, no one more than you deserves it! And two, because what you pay is what you get. You are putting in a bit more money up front for beauty products, but you are receiving quality, trending, full size items in your box as well. In way you are saving money, just this box alone has a retail value of $257.98. The price of your subscription for an entire year, which is a total of four seasonal boxes. The only downside is that the contents of the box is a total surprise. You don't get to pick and choose what goes in it. You may end up not liking certain products you receive. Resulting in the subscription as a waste of money. But is investing in yourself ever a waste?

If you can afford it, I say go for it. If not, you can always try and save up a little every month, for this investment in yourself. You don't have to save $50 or $100 every paycheck, but maybe $5 here, $20 there until you've reached your goal. In my case, I loved all of the products, and will definitely be checking out other box subscriptions that are out there to spoil myself with. If you'd like for me to review any of the products listed in this post, let me know in the comments! I'd be happy to do some.

Pandebono | Colombian Cheese Bread

Wednesday, 1 March 2017

Hello March! Boy, did February fly by! Since starting the blog in January, it's been my goal to post the first of every month. Hopefully this month will bring me beautiful things...or luck. I'm kicking off the month with this traditional Colombian recipe. Don't worry, it's very simple to follow.

Growing up in North America, made it very difficult to try traditional Colombian foods. Ingredients are very hard to find and rare when you do. In most big cities there are Latino Markets where you can purchase a few typical foods, sweets, treats and even cookware. These are imported goods, and for the most part over priced. So, when my mother would make these, it would have to be for a special occasion. In Colombia, these are very common in bakeries, usually made as a side for breakfast. But for my family, they are a treat! Now, I make these for my own kids. These Colombian cheese puffs or cheese bread will make any family or friend get-together better. They're called Pandebonos. Soft and chewy, they are guaranteed to leave your guests asking for more! If you would like to know how to make them, keep on reading.

I N G R E D I E N T S:
1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup olive oil
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups tapioca flour, yuca flour or masarepa
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups Parmesan or Feta cheese, finely grated

Alternatively, you can purchase the premade Pandebono Box mix, at your local Latino Market.

D I R E C T I O N S:
1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. In a saucepan, over medium heat, mix together milk, salt and olive oil. Remove from heat when bubbles start appearing.
3. Stir in the type of flour you selected and whisk thoroughly. Using a mixer with a paddle attachment beat the dough for few minutes at medium speed.
4. In a small bowl, beat the eggs and add them to the dough. Mix well with the mixer at medium speed.
5. Add the cheese and mix again with the mixer at medium speed. The dough will be sticky, don't worry, it should be like that.
6. Now scoop the dough with a tablespoon or an ice cream scoop, form it a little bit into balls and place on the parchment-lined baking sheet. I made the heaping tablespoon sized portions. Transfer to the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes until they have puffed.

They are best served warm and accompanied by some traditional Colombian Hot Chocolate. Of course, you can accompany these delicious pandebonos with any drink you like. Because there's nothing better than eating some fresh pandebonos with a cold soda pop, Enjoy!

Beautiful You | The Art of Being a Lady: Rules of a Lady

Monday, 27 February 2017

I had always seen these types of "quotes" on pinterest or instagram but have never found where they come from. Some of the ones I had seen are out of order or no longer continued. So, I decided to recreate them and add a few of my own in hopes that it'll inspire others, just like they have inspired me. I'll be featuring these through my instagram @bytheartofbeingalady. You can also see my post on defining class and other ladylike terms here, as well as view my disclaimer here. These will mainly be a variety of affirmations, guidelines, and quotes to motivate women in order to reconnect with their femininity. I will be doing an individual post on some of the subjects these quotes touch on. Because this series is new, I'll be playing around with the whole look for a while, until I feel satisfied with its layout. So be sure to follow the blog that way you don't miss out on any new content. If you have anything you want me to see, share it with me using the hashtag #beyoutifulart.
